Our Story
Founded in 2016, VETERAN INK was born from a passion to help Veterans facing post-service mental health challenges. We recognized a powerful truth: tattoos provide Veterans a unique form of therapy—telling their stories when words fall short.
Today, we stand with a community of over 175,000 Veterans and a trusted network of tattoo studios dedicated to their needs. Through our Ink Fund Program and community initiatives, we provide access to transformative tattoo therapy in safe, understanding environments.
Every tattoo tells a story. Every Veteran deserves to be heard. One design, one Veteran at a time—we’re changing lives through ink that matters.

Our Mission
VETERAN INK is a leading nonprofit organization proudly uniting a community of over 175,000 Veterans. We are dedicated to raising awareness of Veterans’ mental health struggles by providing the resources to create and share the stories behind their military experiences and service-related tattoos. For many Veterans, especially those who are struggling with service-connected disabilities or mental health conditions, getting tattooed is a form of escapism. Tattoos help individuals share their stories without ever having to tell them. That’s why we believe every Veteran that desires to heal through tattoo therapy should have the resources and space where their stories can thrive.
Our Executive Director
Meet Tim Speer, our Executive Director.
Navy SEAL Veteran. Builder. Mentor. Father of three. A leader forged by service, discipline, and real-world execution.
With 10 years in the SEAL Teams and a broad set of advanced qualifications, plus 15+ years leading construction and operations, Tim has delivered in the highest-pressure environments from overseas missions to multimillion-dollar projects.
Before stepping into this role, Tim first connected with Veteran Ink as a tattoo recipient. His story, service, and experience with tattoo therapy brought him into the community, and now that journey comes full circle.
Tim continues his mission through Veteran advocacy and nonprofit leadership, bringing that same grit, clarity, and purpose to Veteran Ink.
Our Chief Marketing Officer
Heather Dueitt brings more than 20 years of marketing leadership to Veteran Ink, with experience spanning global consumer brands, national agencies, and mission-driven organizations. Her career includes work with companies such as Edelman, Dove, Samsung, and several Veteran-focused groups, giving her a unique blend of strategic insight and deep respect for the stories Veterans carry.
Known for her thoughtful approach to brand building and her ability to translate complex ideas into clear, compelling narratives, Heather has helped organizations grow their reach, sharpen their identity, and better connect with the communities they serve. Her background reflects a balance of creativity, data-driven strategy, and a strong commitment to meaningful impact.

At VETERAN INK, 100% of every dollar you donate goes directly to the Ink Fund Program. This program organizes and funds Veteran-to-Veteran tattoo sessions, providing a powerful and unique coping mechanism for processing deeply personal military experiences that words often can't capture. Your generosity empowers veterans to express their stories through tattoos, honoring their service and fostering a supportive community that understands and celebrates their journeys. Together, we create a lasting impact by ensuring veterans have the resources and connections they need to share their experiences and heal through artistic expression.
